Supply Drive for Holy Nativity Episcopal School

by Diego Duran-Medina, Director of Service Learning
We have been made aware of a second school that was affected by the Hurricane in Panama City. We would like to do a one week drive from Monday, November 5th to Friday, November 9th for Holy Nativity Episcopal School. Below is a letter from one of the teachers working there:

Hello!  My name is Michelle Cool.  I am one of the 3rd grade teachers at Holy Nativity Episcopal School, Panama City, FL.  I am contacting you to first express our deepest appreciation to you for reaching out to our school in our time of need. The last thing we ever expected was to be facing the destruction of our school due to Hurricane Michael. This year is our 60th Anniversary, and we look forward  to the upcoming events we have planned to celebrate.

Like you, our school is our home away from home. To say that we go to “work” every day is a false statement. We all look forward to our days when we can be with each other and most importantly, be with our students. It is not “work” to us. We are there because we have a love of teaching, a love for our children and each other, and most importantly, a love of God.

Right now, we are all still in shock in the aftermath of the hurricane. The school we left on Friday, October 5, 2018, doesn’t resemble the school we returned to. Our campus has forever been changed. No longer do we have the beautiful oaks providing shade for our children. Our buildings are missing roofs and other roofs have trees lying on them. Our library and art building have been destroyed. Some teachers lost their entire classrooms. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel at seeing our beautiful school destroyed. We have cried together, shared in countless hugs, stood together in disbelief, and prayed together. Most importantly, we have rallied together and are determined to restore our school to what it once was. This will not be easy.
